Mirage is Print Software used by photographers, fine art printers, print service providers, graphic designers, marketing agencies, layout designers as well as keen amateurs. Mirage is easy to use and offers a good and consistent means of printing with large format printers- all at a cost effective price point. It is the most advanced professional print-plug-in for Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and Photoshop Elements, which offers a simple print interface. An additional plug in for Adobe Lightroom is also available at a small additional cost.
There are times when you might want to print very large images or multiple images at the same time and Mirage offers this functionality, whilst making it easy for the end user. You can duplicate a single image numerous times for consistent results or you can quickly export a number of different image files in different sizes from Photoshop using the sequence - File-Automate-Mirage Print All, for instance. It really does make printing a much more effortless and predictable process.
With Mirage 4 you are able to edit your images directly in the programme via the user friendly settings dialogue. With an array of basic editing functions you can tweak the white balance, exposure, brightness and contrast, sharpness, hue and saturation and even do a sepia conversion if you need to, although for the most I would imagine this facility might lay quite dormant to be honest. You can also decide with Mirage how you want the Chromo Optimiser laying down on your images, if at all. With the quick check of a box you can select the entire image, or let Mirage do it for you on Auto mode, where it will just place the Chroma Optimiser where there is ink laid down. There is also a clipping warning, where you can choose which colour you want the warning to display in. I would imagine most people using Mirage would be doing their basic process in something like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, but it is handy to have if you do need it to do a quick last adjustment before you do send the job to print.
There is also the Loupe function (shown above), so you can scrutinise your image pre-print. The Loupe can be found underneath the Page or the Print Preview, simply press the Loupe button to activate it. This function is capable of producing an amazing detailed close up of part of the image and you can scroll around to view parts of the image in detail as you wish. The loupe zooms in to show the actual pixel-accurate print size, regardless of the display size in the Mirage window. This zoom to 100% of the print data enables optimal control of the sharpness, resolution, and image depth of the actual print. The area shown in the loupe also contains the effects of any image editing done in Mirage.
One of the best features of Mirage is the ability to optimise the placement of your image/s to prevent unnecessary wastage of media. You can choose whether you would prefer the images placed in a way to make the cutting of images easier afterwards, or if you want to optimise placement for minimal waste. You can also choose between different styles of marks or outlines you would like printed around your image to help make your life easier when it comes to trimming your prints. All media and printer specific settings can be stored, ready to use again as needed, saving you time in setting up each job from new.
As you can see above I have six files that I want to send to print. Mirage warns me that the placement of the images can be optimised to save on media wastage. If you look in the user interface to the left you will see that I have the Mirage settings set to Optimise for minimal waste. This can be changed and you can choose to Optimise for easier cutting if you prefer.
If you click the Green highlighted warning bar, Mirage will automatically optimise the image placement according to your requirements. All of the images will stay exactly how you want them (no random resizing here) and the programme will work out for you the optimimum position.
